At the start of March 8Ball entered into a partnership with B1G1 (Buy 1 Give 1), the charitable organisation dedicated to doing good through small transactions. Since then we have given to charitable organisations every time someone buys a shirt from ourselves. Through this, our customers have helped improve the lives of some of the world's poorest people.
Funding Education in Cambodia
For our first period of charitable giving we pledged to pay for a day's schooling for a child in Cambodia for every t-shirt purchased. The impact has been outstanding and in the month of April alone we funded 1930 days for the poorest children in the country.
Through the program, we helped fulfil the academic potential of a child by covering the costs of education for one day through the 'school on the mat' program. The Cambodian Hope Organization provides informal pre-primary education in areas such as basic language skills and mathematics, preparing these children for admission to government schooling and helping them gain a proper foothold to better employment and income generating opportunities in the future, releasing them from the cycle of poverty.
Supporting families in poverty
8Ball CEO and founder Richard Flanagan was so impressed with the response from our customers that he doubled down on the charitable giving and added 676 days of support to families in poverty.
Specifically, he helped support families at risk of separation to remain together and create a brighter future for their children. In Cambodia, parents often feel forced to place their children in orphanages due to poverty and lack of access to education. All children have the right to grow up in a safe and nurturing family environment. This Life Cambodia works to preserve and support these vulnerable families through self-determining income generation activities, scholarships for children and emergency medical/basic need allowances.
Getting school uniforms for those in need
One of the key benefits of using B1G1 is that you change which charity you support at regular intervals. That is why I am proud to announce that we have begun supporting another great cause.
During the month of May we are partnering with the Hands Across the Water Organisation to provide school uniforms to orphaned or at-risk children. For every 4 shirts sold, we will fund the purchase of a uniform which will allow a child to attend school and get the start in life they deserve.
We will continue to keep you updated on our latest partnerships with B1G1 and the great causes you are helping to support. Keep an eye out our social media channels for future announcements. If you wish to learn more about B1G1 then why not visit our earlier blog here.
