This Clash t-shirt features a painting done by Ray Lowry who was picked by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones to join The Clash on their 1979 US Tour as their official 'war artist', and is a classic piece of Rays art. It shows Joe, Mick and Paul live on stage.Ray would sketch the band whilst they played, often standing at the back of the gig or side of stage, he would then return to his hotel room and work late into the night to finish the piece adding colour from memory. At first glance Rays work appears scratchy but on closer inspection the personalities and movement of the individual band members can be seen. This Clash tshirt features the original concept artwork taken from Ray Lowry's sketch book for what is now recognised as one of the most iconic album designs of all time.Ray considered the Elvis Presley Rock & Roll No1 album the most down and dirty rock and roll album cover ever. Ray saw the similarity in the Clash and their music as something as revolutionary so used the Elvis album cover design as inspiration.
